BEN + BRITT AT HOME

We hired Ben and Britt to undertake an extensive renovation of our heritage property in Wortley Village (Westcott). From the outset we found both Ben and Britt to be very engaged with our project, and the vision we had for the house. We had previously hired a contractor who proved incapable of handling the project, and we had a planned to add a second story, but Britt introduced a layout for our renovation that included re-doing the entire house and adding a small extension in the back instead. This suited our requirements for a second bathroom, office and also improved our current living space. She had a great vision for our project from the outset, and was excellent at helping us narrow down our design choices through the process. We wanted to preserve a heritage feel to the house despite the dramatic changes we were making, and she kept this in mind for all our decisions. Britt was also mindful of making sure the layout, design, and materials used were practical for our family with two young children. She is very direct when discussing the pros and cons of various design choices, and we really enjoyed working with her. The result is an incredible living space that exceeded our expectations. Ben was the main point of contact for the construction side of things, and throughout the process he was very communicative and straightforward about when things would be done and how long they would take. He took a very proactive approach to keeping us in the loop about how the project was progressing, and we always felt like we were up-to-date. The house is 125 years old, and a few unexpected items came up, but Ben was very good at communicating the issues that arose. They also completed the work within the budget that we discussed, and there were no surprises on any of the work that they outlined when we signed the contract. Even with the issues arising from the age of the house, we felt that they were very fair with trying to keep the costs as low as possible for us. Ben was regularly on site, and we often ran into him on the weekends when we were checking out the house. They use good quality contractors, and Ben has a good rapport with them, which helped the work move smoothly. Overall we would highly recommending working with Ben and Britt for any renovation project. A renovation of this size could have been very stressful, but the stress was kept to a minimum by their professionalism. They treated our project like it was their own house they were restoring, and it was a pleasure to deal with them throughout the process. I had a renovation project (floors, stairs, painting, fireplace) with Ben & Britt, where I primarily worked with design lead Sheri. The team handled both the design, and project management aspects of the renovation. The design was fantastic and working with Sheri was easy - she will both conform to your preferences but also let you know (politely!) when she thinks something might be a mistake. Her guidance was crucial to the final project choices. As far as the renovation itself went, the entire team went out of their way to make the actual renovation process as easy as possible for me. Sheri double-checked everything as the process was going on, and caught things that I might have missed. The thing that I appreciated most was the great communication and honesty of the team. They were honest about how choices would impact the budget, and there were NO surprises at the end of the project. They even managed to save some money on certain aspects and pass that along.
